Gas station with lots of lights on during the day
Why does this company put so much light up at their new stations. This picture was taken at 10 am central time. Right down the street, at the same time of day, there is a mobile gas station that has no lights on.

I actually really like how these new stations look, but it is amazing how often their lights are on when there is no need. This company is a leader in green movement funding a lot of solar projects and other efforts. You would think they might put a little more technology into their gas stations to further protect their brand for being Green.

It may be the middle of the day, but the day looks pretty dark and rainy. It may have been for safety of the customers that these lights are on.

It is quite dark outside. I would expect to see the lights on for the safety of the customers.

There were 4 other gas stations in the immediate area whose lights were off. There was more than enough ambient light.

" This company is a leader in green movement" I nearly fell of my seat when I read this, Just how ignorant must a person be to actually think this. BP is the 3rd or 4th biggest oil company in the world. It doesn't matter if they put a tiny percentage of their gigantic profits into wind or solar energy. It's all for PR to con the sheeple idiots out there. BP are out to make as much money as possible.

If they don't turn their lights off the ice caps will melt, and San Francisco will be under water, so I think they really ought to turn the lights off, ok?

Yep, for gods sake turn off the lights!!!!! How dare anyone use artificial lighting on a horribly dull day in a area where highly flammable liquids are being pumped. This kind of behavior just shouldn't be allowed in a free country. Someone should stick on a Gestapo uniform and march in there and force the manager to plunge the place into darkness. If people spray gas all over themselves, well then that's their problem.

BP is the 6th largest Oil Company and the 2nd largest retailer in the world. BP is one of the principle advocates of a Global Cap Trade System for CO2. So BP is being a bit of a hypocrite here. Do as I say, not as I do.....

Here are the facts. 1. It's dark, this is obvious from the lights being reflected in the rain soaked floor. I'm a photographer, I know about these things. 2. The lights make it safer for all the paying customers. 3. It's a free country (just) 4. By snooping around, taking pictures and posting anonymously you are behaving like a Fascist. 5. You'll disagree with the last statement because all fascists justify their actions. 6. If you were a real man and not a snidy little snooper you'd have spoken to the manager of the petrol station about your ridiculous concerns. 7. Only a spineless gutter snipe would sneakily take a picture then post it on line to bitch about it. 8. Just because it's daytime doesn't mean that it can't get VERY dark. It does, allot. And lights are required to let us see what we're doing. 9. It's a FREE country. 10. Did I mention that it's a FREE country. That means we should be free to go about our daily routine without wannabe Joseph Stalin's filing reports on us.

As the person who was there, I can tell you there was more than enough ambient light. As the first posting said, the gas stations near by had no lights on. Often when you drive by these stations, their lights are on bright. I did talk to the clerk and he said he did not know what to do about it but he agreed the lights were on too often. So, I sent it to BP and they are looking into it. And yes, I got my Nazi Swastika for all the effort. Now, when do I get the shinny boots? I also got ejected from the CO2 conspiracy club for talking to an Oil company.

"As the person who was there, I can tell you there was more than enough ambient light" And that's just your opinion which god willing you'll keep to yourself in future. As a previous astute poster pointed out, the lights are no doubt triggered by a light metre, which was no doubt set up by a professional who does that kind of thing for a living. Now, the way these light metre triggered lighting systems work is that when the ambient light drops below a certain level, let's say 1/10th @ 2.8 on 100asa then the lights will automatically come on. When the ambient light picks up the lights will turn off. All automatically which explains why the clerk had no clue, why would he, it's all automatic. Now if I use just 10 more brain cells I'm able to deduce that it's would be massively unlikely for all the light metres to be a) set at the same trigger point at all the garages and b) that all the light metres are equally calibrated. So it's almost certain that of the three garages you mention one will inevitably automatically turn it's lights on first when light levels drop. To have an issue with this based on the fact that the lights at two other garages in the vicinity not being on is quite simply vacuous. Maybe you should offer your services to go around all the garages in your area and ensure that all the light metre triggered lighting systems are synchronised as the discrepancies in the calibration of the triggering systems is clearly giving your poor little brain a headache. Keep taking the medication Mr Energy Saver, and yes, you've deserved that swastika and I'm sure you'll look just right in a nice black shiny pair of Jack boots.

I've just had a moment of clarity......This is just one big wind up, right? I mean you're just taking the mickey and all this is just one massive joke that I've fallen for and you're not really snooping around seriously filing reports on people?
